English
This week we will continue with chapter 3 on nouns.
Writing
On Tuesday, the children will begin their next writing assignment. This is a creative writing assignment. Each child will become a superhero and in detail describe their suit, powers, mission, etc. The finished story will be a seven paragraph paper.
Science
The children will continue their study of the animal kingdom. This week's topics are: body temperature, fish, and possible amphibians.

English
To date we have covered pages 76 -81 in the chapter on nouns. These pages have two very important rules for spelling some plural nouns correctly. I believe most of the children have mastered these rules. Please review these rules with your child when you get a chance. This week I will cover pages 82 - 85 in the book. The test should be the week of the 26th.
Writing
The children will finish up their super hero stories this week. On Wednesday, October 21st they will begin typing them in computer class. I have also reserved the lab for Friday, October 23rd so that the children can finish typing their stories. Any stories that aren't finished in the two hours that were allotted will have to be finished before or after school.
Science
This week the students will take their notes on amphibians and begin the section on reptiles. The science test will be some time during the week of the 26th.

English
We will be finishing up Chapter 3: Nouns this week. The test will be Wednesday October 28th. Remember a review sheet will be given to the kids on Tuesday, October 27th. Please use this sheet to study for the test.
Writing
As a class we will write the conclusion for the superhero paper on Monday. Wednesday the children will begin typing their paper in computer and on Friday they will finish typing it. This week the children will also begin a short report on an endangered species. They used last week's computer time to fill out a short questionnaire on the animal. The kids will now use this information to write a four paragraph paper about the animal.
Science
We fill finish up The Animal Kingdom this week. The test will be Tuesday, October 27th. We will review as a class on Monday, so that each child knows if they are ready or not.

English
The English test will be Wednesday, October 28th. A review sheet should come home on Tuesday with each child. Please use this sheet to help prepare your child for the test.
On Thursday, we will begin Chapter 5: Action Verbs.
Writing
The children will continue to work on their endangered species report this week. This is the first paper we have done where I put the kids on their own to write their introductions and I must say they have done a wonderful job. Please ask your child to see his/her rough draft to this point. I am not sure yet when the final copy for this paper is due.
Science
The science test has been changed to Tuesday, November 3rd. We will take notes on birds Monday, as well as watch the slide show for birds. We will also cover mammals this week. On Monday, November 2nd I will review for the test so that each child knows how much he/she needs to study.

English
We will begin the chapter on verbs this week. It can be found on pages 152 - 165 of the English book.
Writing
The children will finish up their endangered species reports this week and hand write the final copies. I hope to also begin the next writing assignment this week which is a biography on the Sprouse Brothers (Dylan and Cole on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody).

Science
The test is Tuesday. I will also be starting the unit on The Human Body this week. The children will again receive a short booklet that we will use in class. You may ask your child to bring it home but please make sure it is returned to school each day. This is a much longer unit than The Animal Kingdom and has many more notes. Please review with your child as often as possible.
