Let me begin by apologizing for my late posting. I believe I am suffering from spring fever and as a result completely forgot my educational responsibilities.

English
We will continue this week in the chapter on pronouns. This is a relatively short chapter. The test should be sometime late next week.
Writing
Today (Monday) the kids began their Faces in the Crowd writing assignment. This is a short assignment that copies a weekly section in Sports Illustrated. Please be sure to ask your child to see his/her final copy because they do turn out really cute. On Thursday we will begin descriptive writing.
Science
We have begun the last chapter in science. The topic is American Space Travel. There will be a short vocabulary quiz on Thursday. Each child should have nine vocab words in their notebook.
This is a very fun chapter for the kids but it can also be very difficult. The test has quite a few important years in space travel on it and this can be very challenging for some children. I will keep you posted as your child adds the years to his/her notebook so that you can review with them whenever you get a chance.

English
We will finish up the chapter on pronouns this week and the test is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 5th. A review sheet will go home on Monday to help the kids prepare for the test.
Writing
Later in the week the children will begin a descriptive writing assignment. They will be working in groups for this assignment. Each group will be creating their own professional sports team. They will design a poster that will include a picture of their team's logo, stadium, uniform and manager. They will then write a six paragraph paper using as much detail as possible to tell us about their new team.
Science
We will continue the unit on Space Travel. Important Dates given to date:
1957 - Sputnik 1 is launched, 1957 - Space Race begins,
!958 - Explorer 1 is launched, 1958 - NASA is founded
