Welcome Back - Week 1
Welcome back to what promises to be a very exciting and productive fourth grade school year. My name is Miss Tovey and I will be teaching the fourth graders English, Writing and Science as well as teaching my homeroom (211) Spelling. Below is an outline of the first unit for each of my classes.
English
Unit one will focus on sentences and sentence structure. The four types of sentences will be taught (declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory), along with simple and compound subjects and simple and compound predicates. Please ask your child to bring home his/her English book and review with them as needed.
Writing
The first unit in writing will focus on creative writing. With this Unit I will be focusing on sentence structure, using paragraphs and writing with detail. The children will not be working on an actual story the first week but rather learning the correct ways to set up a well written story. I will notify you of their first writing assignment.
Science
Graphing will be the first unit covered in Science class. The children will learn how to read and interpret bar graphs and line graphs. They will also learn how to make their own bar graphs and line graphs. All fourth grade students will need to have a package of quadrille graph paper. (This is your standard 4 square per inch graph paper.)
