English
We will spend most of this week reviewing the concepts that were learned before Easter Break. Such as, what is an adverb, when to use an adverb, using good and well correctly. I hope to begin the last section of the chapter on Friday, which is double negatives. The test, on adverbs will be sometime next week.

Writing
This week will be spent writing the research paper for whichever topic your child chose. The paper will be required to have an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. This will be the first time this year that the children will be on their own to write their entire paper. Rough drafts will be due on Thursday.

Science
This week we will begin discussing the Space Shuttle. As part of the section on the space shuttle we will also cover the two tragedies that occurred; Challenger and Columbia. There is quite a bit of information on the Space Shuttle Program. Please continue to review the notes regularly with your child. I hope to wrap up this chapter by the end of the week or early next week. The test is tentatively scheduled for late next week.

English
We have officially finished the grammar part of the English book. I will be using the next few weeks to go back and cover the punctuation sections of each chapter that we skipped. The punctuation sections are the last part of each chapter. (1 or 2 pages)

Writing
The children will continue to work on their group writing project this week.

Science
All did not go as planned last week. We did finish the chapter on Thursday. However, the children did not get to make their space shuttles so I will be pushing the test back until Thursday. Please begin reviewing the notes for the chapter with your child. The "Important Dates" section will be the most difficult section of the test for most children. If you find your child is having a difficult time learning the years encourage him/her to learn the extra credit which is worth 14 points.
Also, the rockets are in. The cost will be $7.00 per child. Each child will receive a rocket to decorate and a motor to launch their rocket. The launch date for the rockets is tentatively set for May 30th. We will launch them at Beverly Park. We will need parent volunteers to help pack the rockets and help to ensure safety. If you are interested please let me know. Permission slips will be going out soon.
