Welcome Back
Welcome back to what promises to be a very exciting and productive fourth grade school year. My name is Miss Tovey and I will be teaching the fourth graders English, Writing and Science as well as teaching my homeroom (211) Spelling. Below is an outline of the first unit for each of my classes.
English
Unit one will focus on sentences and sentence structure. The four types of sentences will be taught (declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory), along with simple and compound subjects and simple and compound predicates. Please expect a small amount of English homework two to three times a week.
Writing
The first unit in writing will focus on personal narratives. The children will be taught how to gather and organize their thoughts, write a rough draft, revise their rough drafts, complete their final drafts and share their narratives with their classmates. Most of the writing will take place in school but occasionally a child may have to bring home an assignment that needs to be finished.
Science
Graphing will be the first unit covered in Science class. The children will learn how to read and interpret bar graphs and line graphs. They will also learn how to make their own bar graphs and line graphs. All fourth grade students will need to buy a package of quadrille graph paper. (this is your standard 4 square per inch graph paper)
