OCTOBER in Music

Our Year is off to a FABULOUS beginning. I wish you all could hear the boys and girls as they begin to excercise their voices singing all kinds of rounds and canons. We are progressing in each class with matching pitch, echoing rhythms, mapping solfiegge (do-re-mi), understanding the difference between the major and minor keys.

Our 7/8th girls have been voiced into their sections of Soprano and Alto. They are sounding just beautiful as we sing our songs. So far we have mastered Havanah Shirah, Ah Poor Bird, (which we sang in major and minor keys), Derry Ding Dong Dasson, the Ghost of John. We are working on Halloween songs and we'll be getting ready to approach our composition works shortly.

Our 7/8th boys are now in the process of being voiced. They are singing nicely on pitch and a few of our guys are beginning to experiment with their vocal changes. A couple of Baritones are emerging before our very eyes. They too will begin working on compostitions shortly.

6th grade is working to keep a steady beat. High energy and lots of rhythmic work is keeping us busy. We have sung a lot of rounds and canons and some of the groups are quite good at their independent singing. 6th will begin their compostion writing in two weeks. Lots of fun to look forward to.

Second Third and Fifth grades are having class in the Church and are having a great time singing our songs in harmony, stomping out the rhythms, learning Solfiegge syllables.

Fourth Grade is in the music room and doing a great job of mapping notes from songs to Solfiegge, practicing their diction, excercising their jaws. Halloween songs are proliferating the halls over here and they are pros at singing them in rounds and canons.

Kindegarten and First grade are spending a lot of time learning to cooperate with each other, playing games, singing songs, learning to manipulate their bodies to the music (dance), act out the songs. I always have a smile on my face on Monday!:)

MUSIC CLASS 2008-2009

Welcome to MUSIC in the Fine Arts Building.

An overview of our classes this year: We will continue with our composition techniques and will begin harmonizing our songs from last year that we composed. In order for our students to be able to do this they will be learning about structure, form, order, harmony, melody, and how each of these relate to each other . If last year is any indication, these pieces are going to be masterworks!!

Our 4th and sixth grade will begin the year with simple singing games and songs which will train their ears and voices and get them working in synchronization with each other. Fourth and Sixth Graders will be able to sing alone and with others comfortably by the end of the year.
We look forward to learning about music form, applying solfiegge to our melodies, singing in tune, and on beat with rhythm.

Kindegarten and First Grade are going to spend a lot of time this year moving to music and getting their bodies to cooperate with their voices and with the music. We will be tapping rhythms, learning many new and reviewing many old songs with them.

All of the students will be having a great time with some new name games, bean bag toss, puppets, clapping, telephone, etc. And some are even coming up and showing me games and songs they remember from fourth grade!!

Here are a couple of Tunes Mom and Dad might know: Flea (Veestay)
Telephone Name song
Derry Ding Dong Dasson
White Coral Bells
Today
Lucy Locket Lost her Pocket
Doggie Doggie Where's your Bone
All My Trials

Expect to be surprised with lots of activities, and zany new ideas from the world of music, dance and games!!!

FUN NEW BRAINIAC INFORMATION:

New evidence is showing that the information that Babies and toddler's learn up to the age of 5 and then againg through the age of 9 has enormous impact on the aptitude for what one is gifted in. Whatever aptitude is developed by age 9 is what one can take with him through life. If however one has not tapped that talent by then, it will be stunted at that moment in time. The important news is to focus on exposing our children to age appropriate learning from infancy.
