5th grade Science

Science

5th grade
What a fun week in science. We have studied the muscular and skeleton system of our bodies. We incorporated art and science together and discussed how these two systems are important for an artist to study. We studied Picasso's work in Cubism and examined some of his famous paintings and sculptures. We realized that artist have to be brave, daring, and extraordinary. The kids drew self portraits of themselves stressing the muscles in their faces to draw the expression they wanted to portray. Then, after reading a book about Picasso, the students became brave, daring and extraordinary and recreated their self portrait following Picasso's view of cubism. Very interesting results have occurred. It was a little difficult for some of the kids to "let go" in this assignment.
Their famous works will be hung in the hallways of school.

Dexter Lab 101! What fun we had this week. The kids studied acids and bases. We went into the lab to discover which household substances would be considered acids and which would be considered bases. Each science team received their own litmus paper to experiment at home. The students wrote up their results in a lab and will be used as their assessment for this chapter. Next week....force and motion! Get those matchbox cars out of storage!
