Jane Goodall

The sixth grade reading students completed a unit in reading on Jane Goodall and animal research. In place of an exam, the students developed a company to write a proposal to Lincoln Park Zoo to create and design a habitat for chimpanzees. The students were given specific details to use for their proposal. After they completed the written part of this project they then sketched a design then took that design and created their habitat using materials from home and school. The students then designed a rubric to use for grading. The students also peer evaluated each others project prior to presenting and grading so that they could listen to the advice of other students of what they liked about their presentation or what they thought they could improve upon for their presentation.
Wow! What wonderful examples of chimpanzees habitats.

We will have a spelling pretest this Monday on the words for our next unit, Black Frontiers.
