This Halloween, your child will present a one minute speech about a saint that was chosen from a saint lottery. We went to the computer lab to research information about their saint. There were simple questions the children needed to answer (in their notebook). The website is also written in their notebook. The students are to take this information and write a short, one minute speech about their saint. The speech will be written as if the child is that saint. The children are to dress as if the saint would dress. For example, one student has St. Martin. An appropriate dress for this saint would be a sword and either robe or bedsheet to use as a cape. For St. Christina, an arrow would be an appropriate costume piece. This is to be a simple representation of the saint and a basic speech. The children are not allowed to bring a paper with them as they tell us about their saint. Please don't get caught up in the costume idea. It should be very basic and easy. If you are having trouble with the idea, please email me. This should be a fun, learning experience. Thank you.
In Religion, we are learning about the Sermon on the Mount. The children have been reenacting stories using each Beatitude as the basic theme for each story. They are great actors!
Each Friday, in Religion, we use a magazine called VENTURE. This is a great prep for mass on Sunday. The magazine takes each reading and explains it further for the kids. This past Friday, we read about the battle with Amalek. The children held up their arms just as Moses had done in the reading to experience what if must have been like for Moses. At mass on Sunday, the students could relate to the story because it was discussed in class on Friday. We also discuss the gospel for that week too. Please make it a point to talk to your child about the readings at Mass and the Venture magazine that we do together on Friday.
