Welcome Back

Welcome Back to a GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!!!

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun-filled summer. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and excited about the school year ahead.
Our first day of school is an early dismissal. We then have full days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with no school on Friday and Monday!!!
A few reminders:
Don't forget your lunch and a drink for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. (Eat a healthy breakfast so you won't be tired by 10am!)
Check out our website for school supplies. You will need a notebook for seventh grade science and a book cover for your textbook. For eighth grade religion you will need a notebook.
All seventh and eighth grade gentlemen will need to have a plain blue tie to wear to church each week.

Parents-please use my email if you have any questions or concerns-It's the fastest way to reach me each day...
Students-If you have questions about homework feel free to email me the question. I usually will check the email a few times a day.

Eighth Graders-Remember the game-"Follow the Leader"-Well,,,,it's time to be the leader...welcome to eighth grade! Let's have a great year!

Seventh Grade Science

Whew! The first week of junior high is off to a great start.
During the first week of science, we learned about the power of observation. The kids heard stories of three scientist that made incredible scientific discoveries just by observing something very simple. The students practiced their own observations during our first lab this week ( and a tasty one, too).

The students were given a science partner this week. It really was the luck of the draw.
We will switch partners at each quarter break. If there is a problem with the partners, I encourage the kids to talk to me about the problem. I hope that they would come to me to discuss any problems that would arise. Now is the time in their life that they need to start speaking up for themselves when something isn't going well.

At the beginning of each class period, the students are given a "plexer". Hopefully they are sharing these with you at the dinner table. I promise that if they try these each day they will gain points on their Tera Nova tests in March.

Next week, we will begin using the textbook. We are so busy in seventh grade science. When your child brings home the book, please take a look at all the exciting things that we will cover. I do believe this is the best year of science (don't tell the other science teachers that I said that!!!!) There is a huge range of topics that we cover. The kids really enjoy the material. (At least I think they do!)

We will begin with chapter 8. For every chapter, the students are given an outline to help them study and guide them through the chapter. Tests are announced one week prior to the date and they are given an extremely detailed test review along with the essay questions for the test. When they sit down for the test, there are never any surprises.

This is such a great class. I have been looking forward to teaching these kids since Luke started with them in first grade.

If you have any questions....please feel free to call or email me.
See you at the open house...or sooner!
Sherry

P.S. I know how much we all love to do projects at home... I am sorry to disappoint you...most of our projects are done in school!!! (Can I actually hear you saying Yippee!!)
