Hello again from room 206

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- In class this week we will continue to watch the Pope powerpoint presentations. We will also discuss many of the New Testament parables and miracles of Jesus. We will be watching a short video on some of these stories. We will have a test on the Apostles of Christ on Thursday.

5th grade reading/spelling- In class this week we will finish working on the skills and the story Exploding Ants. Last weeks classes were shortened because of the events of Catholic Schools week. We have some catching up to do this week. We will have a spelling test on Mon. The instructions for the Feb. formal book review book report will be given out this week.If we have time we may begin to explore the next story Stormi Giovani.

Hello again from room 206

This will be a very busy week here at SJF. We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week with alot of exciting activities.

Mon. St Rita Band and crazy socks day
Tues.Partner Reading with the 2nd graders
Wed. Sports jersey day and A Dolphin Tale movie in Kane Hall-popcorn will be provided students will need to bring a drink that day
Thurs.Jessie White tumblers and crazy hat day

6th grade religion- In class this week we will continue our study of the Apostles of Christ and students will begin to present their Pope powerpoint presentations.

5th grade reading/spelling-In class this week we will continue to present the Biography Bottles. We will also be reading and doing the skills for the story Exploding Ants. The spelling test will be on Thurs. Students will also be getting their Feb. book report assignments. They will be writing a formal book review on a book of their choice. Instructions will be sent home by the end of the week. All Jan. accelerated readers are due Tues. Jan. 31.

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion-This week we will be working on our research on the Pope and leaders of our Catholic faith. We will be going to the computer lab a few times this week to continue putting together our Powerpoint presentations on this research. Students will also be writing a speech to go with this presentation. We also will begin our unit on the Apostles of Christ and the New Testament.

5th grade reading/spelling- This week in class we will be presenting our Biography book reports. We will also be reading and examining the skills for the story Stretching Ourselves. The spelling test on this unit will be Thursday.

Reminders:
Open House will be on Sun. Jan. 29th after the 10:00 family mass.
5th grade Accelerated reader tests are due. Jan. 31st.

Week of Jan. 16-20

Hello again from room 206

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- The students took their last Old Testament test last week and most did very well. We began working on our Pope and leaders of our Catholic Faith unit last week.Students will be working on their research and powerpoint presentations in the lab this week. We will also begin the New Testament and our discussion on the Apostles of Christ. All Old Testament dioramas are due Jan. 24th.

5th grade reading/spelling- We will be reading and working on the skills for the Westlandia story. The spelling test will be on Thursday. Biography bottles and speeches are due on Jan. 23rd.

Mon. Jan.16- No school for Martin Luther King holiday
Progress reports will be going home this Wed. Jan.18
Catholic Schools Mass and Open House will be Sun. Jan. 29th

Week of Jan.9-13

Hello and Happy 2012 from room 206! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Here is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- Students will be given instructions on their Old Testament project. It will be making a diorama and writing a paper on their favorite Old Testament story.Projects will be due on Jan. 23. This week we will also review for a test on the Old Testament events. Students will be getting a review sheet and we will review in class.

5th grade reading/spellling- This week students will be getting their instructions on their Jan. book reports. They will be reading a biography of their choice and building a biography bottle. We will also be reading and working on the skills for the story Special Effects. Spelling test will be on Thursday.

Week of Dec. 19-21

Hello again from room 206

This is what will be happening in our room this very short week of school.

6th grade religion- In class this week we will be finishing our Three Trees project. We will also begin to review for our final Old Testament test. The test will not be until after we return from our Christmas break.

5th grade reading/spelling- In class this week we will have a spelling test on Mon. on the Mahalia Jackson unit. The Dec. Christmas book report is also due on Mon. We will be working on the skills for the Mahalia Jackson story.

Reminders:
Wed. Dec. 21 early dismissal at 11:30
Students are invited to wear their Sunday best on Wed.

A note was also sent home last week inviting the students in room 206 to be in a small gift exchange.This is optional. The gift should be no more than $5.00. We will also be having a small party that morning. Donuts and juice will be served.

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- In class this week we will continue to review the People of the Old Testament. We will be having a test on them onTuesday.We will also be reading the story of the birth of Jesus. We will be reading a Christmas book called Three Trees and doing a project on this book.

5th grade reading/spelling- In class this week we will continue to read and do the skills for the Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins story. We will have a spelling test on this unit on Monday.The Dec. book report Newspaper is due on Dec. 19th.

Reminders:
Classes will be attending the band concert in school on Tues afternoon.
A note about our Christmas celebration in room 206 is going home this week. We will be having an optional gift exchange on the last day of school. Look for the note this week.

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- In class this week students will continue to read and discuss the season of Advent. They will also be taking the Old Testament timeline test on Tuesday. We will begin to review the people of the Old Testament for a test next week. Finally we will talk about Our Lady of Guadalupe whose feast day is this week.

5th grade reading and spelling- In class this week we will take a spelling test on Leo's Horse this Tuesday. We will take a reading skills test on this story on Wed. We will also begin The Waterhouse Hawkins Dinosaur story and skills this week.

Reminders: Thurs. Is the Feast of the Immacuate Conception and we will be attending mass at 10:00.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed some family time together.

Here is what will be happening in room 206 this week.

6th grade religion- Students will be going over all of the stories in the Old Testament that we read this year. They will be taking a Timeline test on Wed. We will also be discussing the beautiful season of Advent.

5th grade reading/spelling- Students will be presenting their Historical Fiction Timelines in class. We will also be reading and doing the skills for Leo's Horse story. We will not have a spelling test until next week.

Reminders:
Thursday Dec.1- Holiday Field trip to Navy Pier- students will be wearing their gym uniforms and may bring a lunch or purchase one at the Pier.

Friday Dec. 2- NO school for students- faculty inservice day

Weeks of Nov. 14-25

Hello again from room 206

This is what will be happening in our room this week.

6th grade religion- In class this week we will review the Israelite Judges we discussed last week. We will also begin our discussion on the last judge of Israel Samuel and his role of anointing the Kings of Israel. We will begin to read about Saul, the first judge and also the second King David. We will also be watching short videos about each of these people this week. We will continue to work on our Old Testament timelines.

5th grade reading/spelling- In class this week we will be reading a play called "Wings for a King". We will have a spelling test on this unit on Friday. Students should continue to work on their historical fiction timelines that will be presented in class next Monday.

Reminders:
All picture money is due Nov. 18th.

Parent conferences will be next Mon. afternoon and evening. Students will be getting their conference forms on Mon.
Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Mon. Nov. 21st and Tues. Nov. 22nd.
No school Nov. 23,24,25 Thanksgiving Holiday

Report cards will be given out on Friday Nov. 18
