Last week we began to talk about the Stations of the Cross. Each station will be discussed as we follow the journey of Jesus through the Lenten season. Thanks for returning the report card envelope so promptly. I hope you praised your children for the great work they are doing in first grade. They are AWESOME!!
NOTES AND REMINDERS
We had a change of star of the week after the newsletter was printed last week. Declan did a great job as star of the week. Our next star of the week is: Mary. Please bring your pictures on Monday.
Thank you so much for the egg cartons that have already been sent to school. They need to be the cardboard type and please remember to cut the top off before sending them to school. Each student needs 3.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Wednesday, March 3 is Special Lunch from Barraco's. Check your calendars to see if you ordered one.
Tuesday, March 2 is Dr. Seuss' birthday. Dr. Seuss will be our next author study.
HOMEWORK
We will begin a brand new reader on Monday, Level 1.5. Please have your child read only the assigned story for each night. Do not read ahead. The books will need to be covered with the book sock or some type of cover on Monday night. Thanks.
Please read "A Real Gift" on Mon. and Tues. night. Read "Arthur's Reading Race" on Wed. and Thurs. night. The skills for the week will again be the long /e/ sound spelled with -ea and words with the -ed ending. Sight test, spelling test and workbook pages used for assessment will be given on Friday. The complete sight word list from 1.4 came home last week. Please review all the sight words. The test on all the words will begin this week.
In Math, we will continue counting to 60 which will include counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. I hope this will just be a review for the children because I know they did this last year. Any practice at home is always helpful. There will be an oral and written test on counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's to 100.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE THE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS NIGHTLY. WE ADDED 26 NEW CARDS TO THE PILE ON THURSDAY.THE ONLY WAY TO MASTER THEM IS THROUGH OLD FASHION MEMORIZATION.
