Mr. C's Blog for week of October 5, 2009

I am so impressed with the fifth graders. They work hard and have good study habits. Please continue to look at their Math notebooks and be aware of homework via their assignment notebooks.

Accelerated Math is going extremely well. The students are really cranking out their objectives. I want to remind you that the students also get homework during the week in Accelerated Math.

On Monday, I will review with the students for Tuesday's test in Social Studies. The fifth graders were given an extensive study guide to answer last Thursday.

A final remark about Math homework: the students were instructed by me, that they are not to do their Math homework anywhere in school - only AT HOME. Since we are following the book in Math and Social Studies, parents can keep track of their children's work by looking at the assignment notebook. I always write the homework on the board for the students to copy in their assignment notebooks.

Mr. C's Blog for the week of October 12, 2009

Hi Parents,

I did not have a good weekend. My 1995 Neon, with 216,000 miles, was stolen sometime over Sunday night. It was parked on 101st Street by Beverly Park. It was going to be repaired. It starts OK, but after a few miles, it will die out and not restart for about a half hour. I sure hope it died out for whomever stole it. However, as luck would have it, the car probably drove all the way to Texas without any problems.

If you spot an abandoned, maroon, two-door Neon, L.P. 957-4939 ( has Purdue Aumni window stickers) please let me know.

I was so proud, because finally, I was able to drive the car without training wheels!

This week is short because Friday is also a free day. In Math, pages 60 to 69 will be covered - addition of whole numbers and addition of decimals. On Tuesday, the students will have Accelerated Math - don't forget to check on Accelerated Math assignments also.

In Social Studies, pages 41 to 45 will be covered - Indians of the Eastern Woodlands. This will finish the chapter on Native Americans. A test will be given next week.

Mr. C's Blog for the week of October 19, 2009

Another short week due to a field trip on Friday to Navy Pier.

I continue to correct many high scores in Math. The Accelerated Math progress is soaring. The fifth graders are really cooperating and working hard. Their Math note- taking is excellent. By following my teaching, the students are scoring high.

Tuesday is Accelerated Math day this week. Remember, there is always homework in Accelerated Math. ( a good way to achieve more objectives ) The remainder of the Math week will cover subtracting decimals and how to add or subtract using "compensation". See pages 78 - 79.

In Social Studies, unit one will be finished this week, with a major test on Thursday. Please continue to encourage study and preparation for the test now, and not Thursday morning. Thank you parents.
